Ronald Acuña Jr., Matt Olson, Austin Riley and the middle of the order should focus on patient at-bats. Scott has pitched well, but his 29 walks in 63⅓ innings suggest Atlanta can create opportunities by refusing to chase outside the strike zone.
New York Mets Analysis
New York enters Tuesday with considerable confidence after Monday’s offensive explosion.
Lindor was the central figure, finishing with three hits, two home runs and six RBIs. Taylor went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer, while Semien also collected three hits and hit a two-run home run. The Mets tied their season high with 19 hits.
The challenge is maintaining that production against a far more difficult starter.
Sale has limited both right-handed and left-handed hitters through command, deception and elite strikeout ability. New York must avoid chasing his slider and should attempt to raise his pitch count rather than expecting another series of early offensive rallies.
Scott gives the Mets a quality young starter. His 3.13 ERA and 78 strikeouts demonstrate that he can keep New York competitive, and his recovery following Tommy John surgery has been one of the more encouraging parts of the Mets’ season.
However, Scott has not consistently worked deep into games. That could force New York to use its bullpen for several innings against an Atlanta lineup capable of producing power throughout the order.
The Mets are also playing without Juan Soto, who is on the injured list. His absence removes one of their strongest on-base and power threats, placing greater responsibility on Lindor, Bo Bichette and the rest of the lineup.
