Seattle Mariners vs Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction, Picks & Odds

Match Preview

The Seattle Mariners visit Dodger Stadium to open a three-game interleague series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. ET.

Seattle is expected to start right-hander Luis Castillo, while Los Angeles counters with left-hander Eric Lauer. Castillo enters with a 4.85 ERA, while Lauer carries a nearly identical 4.83 mark. The starting-pitching matchup is therefore relatively balanced and does not provide either side with a clear statistical advantage.

The larger difference comes from the teams surrounding those starters. Los Angeles enters at 67-39, while Seattle sits at 52-54. The Dodgers have been one of baseball’s strongest teams throughout the season and return home after completing a road series in New York.

Seattle enters in poor form after losing 7-3 to Texas on Monday. The Mariners dropped three of four against the Rangers and have now lost five of their previous six games. George Kirby allowed four home runs and seven runs during Monday’s defeat, leaving Seattle with little opportunity to recover.

With the superior record, stronger batting order and home-field advantage, Los Angeles is the preferred moneyline selection.

Seattle Mariners Analysis

Castillo is an experienced starter capable of keeping Seattle competitive.

Although his 4.85 ERA is elevated, he still possesses the pitch mix and strikeout ability to navigate a dangerous lineup when his command is working. His most important assignment will be preventing the Dodgers’ strongest hitters from batting with runners already aboard.

Seattle cannot afford unnecessary walks ahead of Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman and the middle of the Los Angeles lineup. The Dodgers have too much power and plate discipline to consistently escape from hitter-friendly counts.

The Mariners’ offence must also respond after a disappointing series in Texas.

Seattle scored three runs Monday, with Randy Arozarena providing a home run and Josh Naylor contributing a late double. The Mariners managed only four hits against Kumar Rocker before adding another run in the ninth inning.

Julio Rodríguez remains central to Seattle’s chances. His combination of power, speed and defensive ability gives the Mariners a player capable of changing the game in several ways. Arozarena, Naylor and Cal Raleigh provide additional power, but Seattle needs more production throughout the order.

The Mariners cannot depend on isolated home runs alone. They must create traffic against Lauer, force him to pitch from the stretch and capitalize when the Dodgers left-hander makes mistakes over the centre of the plate.

Seattle’s road performance is another concern. The Mariners entered the matchup with a 21-29 record away from home and had gone only 4-6 over their previous 10 games.

Los Angeles Dodgers Analysis

The Dodgers’ lineup provides the strongest reason to support the home team.

Los Angeles has considerably more offensive depth than Seattle and can create scoring opportunities from several different parts of the order. Ohtani remains the centrepiece, while Freeman, Max Muncy, Tommy Edman and Andy Pages give the Dodgers multiple hitters capable of producing extra-base damage.

That depth should challenge Castillo throughout the game. Even if Seattle’s starter works effectively during his first trip through the order, Los Angeles becomes increasingly difficult to contain as its hitters see his pitches multiple times.

Lauer does not provide the Dodgers with a major starting advantage. His 4.83 ERA is almost identical to Castillo’s, meaning Los Angeles cannot simply assume it will control the game from the mound.

The left-hander must be careful with Seattle’s right-handed power. Rodríguez, Raleigh and Arozarena can punish mistakes, particularly if Lauer falls behind and is forced to throw predictable fastballs.

Los Angeles does not need Lauer to dominate. Five competitive innings while keeping Seattle near three runs should allow the Dodgers’ lineup and bullpen to decide the matchup.

Home-field advantage is also meaningful. The Dodgers have been one of the league’s most reliable teams at Dodger Stadium, while Seattle has struggled away from home.

Why We Like This Pick

The pitching matchup is essentially even, so the selection comes down to lineup quality, overall consistency and location.

Los Angeles enters 28 games above .500, while Seattle is two games below the break-even mark. That difference reflects a major gap in season-long performance rather than a small sample of recent games.

Seattle is also arriving after a difficult four-game series in Texas. The Mariners lost three of four, allowed four early home runs Monday and have dropped five of their last six games.

Castillo is capable of producing a strong start, and Lauer’s elevated ERA prevents this from being one of Tuesday’s safest selections. Seattle has enough power to make the Dodgers uncomfortable if Los Angeles fails to execute.

However, the Dodgers have the deeper lineup, stronger bullpen options and far greater overall consistency. Los Angeles should also be better positioned if the game becomes a high-scoring contest.

The moneyline is preferred over the run line because the balanced starting matchup could keep the score close into the later innings.

Final Prediction

Expect Castillo and Lauer to both allow scoring opportunities during the opening and middle innings.

Seattle should produce some offence through Rodríguez, Raleigh and Arozarena, but the Dodgers’ deeper batting order should create more sustained pressure. Los Angeles takes control against Castillo and the Mariners bullpen before protecting the lead at home.

Final Score Prediction: Los Angeles Dodgers 6, Seattle Mariners 4
