Kansas City Royals vs Detroit Tigers Prediction, Picks & Odds

Match Preview

The Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers continue their American League Central series at Comerica Park on Saturday, July 25, 2026. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET.

Detroit is expected to start right-hander Casey Mize, while Kansas City counters with veteran right-hander Michael Wacha. Mize enters Saturday with a 4-6 record, a strong 2.79 ERA and 82 strikeouts. Wacha carries a 5-7 record, a 3.66 ERA and 101 strikeouts into the matchup.

The Tigers opened the series with a 2-1 victory Friday night. Tarik Skubal struck out a season-high 12 batters over 7⅓ innings, while Detroit scored both of its runs in the first inning and protected the narrow advantage the rest of the way. The victory was Detroit’s third straight.

Saturday’s pitching matchup should again favour Detroit. Wacha is capable of giving Kansas City a competitive outing, but Mize owns the better ERA and will be pitching at home. The Tigers also enter with momentum after winning the series opener.

Detroit is the preferred moneyline selection.

Kansas City Royals Analysis

Kansas City received a strong pitching performance Friday but could not generate enough offence to support it.

The Royals managed only one run against Skubal and struggled to produce meaningful contact against Detroit’s ace. Their best opportunity came in the seventh inning when they placed runners on second and third, but Skubal escaped without surrendering the lead.

Saturday’s matchup should be more manageable than facing Skubal, but Mize has also produced excellent run-prevention numbers. His 2.79 ERA suggests that Kansas City may again have difficulty creating sustained offence.

Wacha gives the Royals a dependable veteran starter. His 3.66 ERA is respectable, and his 101 strikeouts demonstrate that he can still finish at-bats when needed.

Kansas City’s best path to victory involves Wacha keeping the game close through six innings and the offence capitalizing on any mistakes from Mize. The Royals cannot afford another night in which they waste their limited opportunities with runners in scoring position.

The lineup must also force Mize to work. Long at-bats, walks and early traffic could increase his pitch count and give Kansas City more chances against the Detroit bullpen.

The concern is that the Royals have now seen how effectively Detroit can protect a narrow lead. Falling behind early would place pressure on a Kansas City offence that produced only four hits in Friday’s loss.

Detroit Tigers Analysis

Mize gives Detroit another strong starting-pitching advantage.

The right-hander enters with a 2.79 ERA, nearly a full run lower than Wacha’s mark. Mize does not need to duplicate Skubal’s dominant performance, but five or six quality innings should place the Tigers in an excellent position.

Detroit’s offence was not explosive Friday, but it did enough. Colt Keith opened the first inning with an infield single before Riley Greene and Hao-Yu Lee produced the two runs that ultimately decided the game. Lee finished with two hits and an RBI.

The Tigers should look to apply similar pressure against Wacha. Reaching base early and forcing Kansas City to pitch from the stretch could help Detroit avoid another low-scoring battle.

Detroit also has the confidence of entering Saturday on a three-game winning streak. The Tigers have shown they can win through starting pitching, timely hitting and late-inning relief work.

Kenley Jansen recorded his 12th save Friday, giving Detroit another dependable option if Saturday’s game remains close.

The Tigers do not need to chase home runs against Wacha. A disciplined approach and consistent contact should create enough scoring opportunities to support Mize.

Why We Like This Pick

Detroit has the better starting-pitching numbers, home-field advantage and momentum after winning Friday’s opener.

Mize’s 2.79 ERA makes him the more trustworthy starter, particularly against a Kansas City lineup that managed only one run in the first game of the series. Wacha can keep the Royals competitive, but Detroit should have the stronger run-prevention outlook over nine innings.

The Tigers also showed Friday that they can protect a small lead. Their bullpen successfully completed the job after Skubal’s departure, and Jansen provides experienced late-inning support.

Kansas City is capable of making this another close game, so the Detroit moneyline is safer than the run line. The Tigers should not need a dominant offensive performance if Mize continues pitching near his season level.

Final Prediction

Expect Wacha to keep Kansas City competitive through the opening innings, but Mize should limit the Royals’ scoring opportunities and give Detroit another strong start.

The Tigers’ offence should produce enough timely hitting to take the lead before their bullpen closes out a second consecutive victory.

Final Score Prediction: Detroit Tigers 4, Kansas City Royals 2
